Sound System

Does a closed off trunk with a sound system prevent less sound from coming up to the cabin of the car as opposed to a hatchback trunk where the trunk is inside the car?

Colin, it's me again...with more car knowledge!

I put two twelve inch Jack Hammers in my trunk this year. The fact of the matter is that yes, hatchbacks and trucksdo have a advantage in the sound system department. The speakers are basically sitting inside the cabin in hatchbacks. More decibels (noise pressure level) are achieved with hatchbacks and trucks.

But to shed a little light on the subject, in order to recieve a little more thump from your trunk, you could face your speaker(s) toward the cabin of the car instead of out the back. This disables you from showing off your freakin' sweet system to your friends, but if its sound quality your looking for, that will help a bit.

Another P.S.- If you ever enter a sound competition with your new speakers, they catagorize cars into three groups, trunks, hatchbacks, and trucks. There's always hope in sound competitions when the hatchbacks arent competing with you! I would know!
